Year two

Denim - Part one

This project gave us an upcycling project. We were challenged to upcycle denim jeans donated by Dove Hospice, with importance on silhouette and volume. Like previous projects, I produced extensive research in Japanese workwear and punk culture. The output aims to provide punk elements within the proportions and hardwear while the functionality and silhouettes seen in Japanese workwear are also embodied in this project.

Denim - part two

Part two of the denim project saw us tackling jeans. We drafted jean patterns from scratch and developed a narrative close to us. My work embodies my personal experiences as a child using skate culture as a key reference point. We were challenged with finishing methods under designer alignment of Acne Studios, to pay homage to this, I spray painted my jeans to achieve my own take on their signature ‘dirty’ finish.

  • Kohler - Bathroom of the future

In collaboration with Kohler, we took off on designing a bathroom accessory of the future. Through research I found that older adults lack effective grip in the shower and that exisiting solutions can do more harm than good in terms of mental health. Showerholds offers a fun, light-hearted way to get more grip in the shower for older adults. This blend between rock-climbing grips and existing wall grips is fun yet elegant.

  • The New Artisans

We stepped into the realm of artisanal fashion for this project, taking craftsmanship and the crafts into action. My project took a political approach to womenswear, highlighting some of the pains of being a woman. This look tells a story of empowerment and challenging traditional ideas, encapsulating what I stand for as a human and designer.

  • Shear wool power

Strong wool poses great opportunities for our struggling farmers and up-coming designers. During this project, we took a material driven design approach and learnt everything we could about strong wool and its properties. This is where I indentified a problem within the bartending indsutry of covering beer taps, an often forgotten but essential step in quality and care. I found strong wool and its properties to be perfect for this.
