"The New Artisans" addresses the the decline in the global environmental state and its impacts on the fashion industry and its pollutants. With a focus on the shift away from the oil-run machine of fast-fashion and hyper-consumerism. I explored political concepts of inequality and ideas of feminism, specifically in fashion. I looked into silhouettes and conceptual directions, including the white shirt and the introduction of shorts and pants into women's wear. I experimented with strong wool felting, quilting, and weaving. As well as hand knitting, due to the time and tactility of the experience.
I aligned myself with Deepti Barth and Oliver Church. Two designers who encapsulated my own values of innovation, considered design, and sustainable practices:
Oliver Church’s work speaks to people who have a love for timeless fabrics and design paired with slow, considerate craftsmanship. Oliver Church's label, 'Singular Garments,' hints at his love for practical and tough clothing. Church's ethos and garments radiate artisanal, so do his methods, with everything being achieved by himself.
Deepti Barth is best known for her expertise in artistic, artisanal menswear. Classic tailoring meets fresh, modern methods and fashion applications to form something understandable yet complex. Using her well-informed craftsmanship to produce well-considered and intelligent fashion.
